Atmospheric pressure is the pressure exerted by the atmosphere on the earth’s surface. This pressure will vary with altitude, but is normally assumed at 14.7 psia, the value at sea level. Gauge pressure is the pressure of a closed system measured by gauge. This pressure excludes the effects of atmospheric pressure.
